Fear is a natural response to danger. We tighten up in a
response to it in an effort to protect ourselves. We can
learn how to relax and be fully alert without going into
an emergency response. We are then able to use all of
our faculties to come up with a reasonable effective way
of protecting ourselves.
Anxiety arouses when we
anticipate something bad happening in the future. As
children, we may learn to use fear or anxiety as a
habitual way of dealing with problems. It becomes a
hard, wired response that is automatic. It is exciting
to give up fear and anxiety and use it simply as a red
light alerting us to the fact that we may be expecting
too much of ourselves, being critical of ourselves, or
not protecting ourselves. |
